Doctor Khumalo in drunk-driving probe

Khumalo and four other people were seriously injured in the crash when his black BMW apparently collided with a minibus on the N1 north, between the Maraisburg and Soweto off-ramps on Sunday morning.

The crash forced the taxi off the road. The driver was slightly injured while his three passengers were seriously wounded, according to metro police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.

Minnaar could not confirm if it was Khumalo driving at the time. But he said the two occupants of his car were taken to Flora Clinic and that a case of drunken and reckless driving had been opened against the driver.

Sources at Flora Clinic confirmed Khumalo was brought into the hospital on Sunday morning.

Details on his condition were scanty because he left soon after treatment.

The police were criticised after rumours that they drew Khumalo’s blood at the crash scene.

On Sunday Minnaar denied the rumour.

He said this was done at Flora Clinic.
