2009 Soccer Confederations Cup – I watched Brazil

I have been so busy with work and all that I have forgotten to tell you about my 2009 Soccer Confederations Cup experience.

So, which game did I go watch? Let me tell you that it was the famous Brazil against USA. I was excited as my younger brother knew that I wanted to see at least one game and had organized me and Bronwyn some tickets. I still owe him money for that, I thought he bought it out of love icon smile 2009 Soccer Confederations Cup I watched Brazil

We parked in Hatfield as some other friends had told me to try not use the shuttles as it was a nightmare.

Anyway, we got to the stadium at 15h:30 with a half an hour to spare. There were thousands of spectators filling the stadium as each minute passed by. The lines for drinks, snacks and beer was so long that I opted not to drink alcohol and just had some cool drink.

When the players walked onto the field and the crowd went absolutely crazy. How often do you get to see Brazil of all teams play LIVE. The game started and we were sitting with the sun in our eyes. We even took a photo of a spectator using a SUN newspaper to try and block the sun.

I even got a surprise visit from a spectator saying that his wife thinks we look alike and wanted to take a photo. We actually missed the first goal because of this, but thats in the past now. Luckily we could see a reply on the big screen, they had one on either side.

The first half ended 2-0 and I knew that the second half would be some what boring as Brazil were in command and I doubt that USA would have the balls to come back icon smile 2009 Soccer Confederations Cup I watched Brazil

The second half was ok for me, Brazil scored again and the game was killed then. The crowd was even doing the Mexican wave, which you can see from the photo to the left.

Brazil eventually won the game 3-0 and I was very happy to have had this chance to see them live and not on TV. It’s very different when watching LIVE and I can’t wait for the 2010 Soccer World Cup next year. It’s being held in South Africa as well and we already have some tickets.

Below are some more pictures that we took, hope you like them:

Semi-Final Games

  • 24th June 2009 – Spain vs USA
  • 25th June 2009 – South Africa vs Brazil

I think Spain will meet Brazil in the final, but I’m still crossing my fingers for South Africa icon smile 2009 Soccer Confederations Cup I watched Brazil

Have you watched a LIVE game before or experience something as big as this? Let me know, would love to hear all about it.

My girlfriend is from Brazil. My favorite soccer team is Brazil so it worked out perfect. I know, I know I’m from USA I should be going for USA team. If they not playing against Brazil I go for my home team. My girlfriend can’t wait to watch the 2010 world cup. Her family goes crazy over the world cup.

@Deneil – I guess you have to support your gf’s team otherwise you are in trouble. Watched our boys (SA) lose 1-0 to Brazil, they played well. Will see how Brazil play against USA again :)

I agree seeing events and people “live” is the best! It really stands out as we continue to communicate more with technology than “live” with each other!

I thought that Spain will go to final, because I’m a big fan of them. Just wasting my time for 90 minutes watching Spain been beaten by USA.

@iwan – well, Brazil did win the the cup 3-2. They were 2-0 down and came back in the second half :)

David Hopkins June 30, 2009 at 11:07 pm

I am glad to hear the USA didn’t win. If they ever win anything it will be a shame. The whole world could end up adopting their blinkered rules like taking penalties from the half way line.

@David – the US did not do to bad against Brazil. After the first half, I thought the US would win. BUT they crumbled in the second half and lost.

Hicham July 1, 2009 at 9:10 pm

This is informative, George.

Unfortunately I am from the few people who didn’t manage to catch up with the matches and guess what? I didn’t watch the final match either! Duh!

George Serradinho July 2, 2009 at 7:05 am

@Hicham – it’s not a problem, but I hope you will watch the Soccer World Cup next year. It’s also going to be held in South Africa.
