Well, this article is dedicated to all the bloggers who are struggling to come up in google search results. To start with let me say that, I am not a expert blogger or something, but I have been blogging for some one & half years from now & I just want to share my experience.
- Update blog - The first main thing you should do is keep your blog updated at-least twice or thrice a week, since Google indexes only latest & updated sites. A cunning tip that I found useful was, update your old article with some more additional useful content if you cannot put new articles regularly, this too will work in a very positive way.
- Article title - Your article title should reflect the contents of the article, this is because when someone search something in Google he/she sees only a small part of your article and the title is the one which makes him click on your link or not. So choose the title wisely.
- Google News – This one tip helped me a lot in getting a hell lot of visitors, check Google news regularly, for example: my site is about mobile phones and I always check the technology updates on Google news which shows the latest launches & prices of mobile phone & I update my site accordingly. This will work because Google always shows the news that are current hot topics, so if you update your site accordingly then your site will surely top in the search results.
- Contents - Not only a good title helps you but you should also have unique & quality contents, because your visitor should trust on your contents, then only he will return back to your site. Not only that much, if you are lucky enough, he will also spread the news about your site. Also see that the contents are not available elsewhere on the internet. Search for such topics using Google Trends.
- Sitemap - Do not forget this. You need to submit your sitemap to Google by registering yourself & your site at the Google Webmasters tools. This will help Google to index your site faster and crawl your site so that it can show up your website link in its search.
- Meta description - Your site should have a very explanatory meta description so that your readers will come to know what your site is about. Also Google shows this description in search results, so make it clever enough but not too long or too short, about 150 characters maximum. Apart from this a big false assumption is that putting a lot of meta tags will help your site to get lot of traffic from Google, but it was true some 5-10 years back and now Google won’t use the meta tags to index any website.

Yes, it does sound simple. But one should not feel threatened or anything like that. Like they say, the hardest part is the starting part. But once you know the techniques and how it is done the right way, then everything will just be a breeze.
All valid tips. I use Google News religiously for updated news on my niche sites.

You are welcome. Whatever I put here is from my own personal experience.
I didn’t know updating old posts is cool for google. I think I needed that information because I’m the kind of blogger who cannot make 3 posts per week because of my day job. I also read that google ignores meta tags. But seeing that their search results display contents from meta tags proves otherwise.
Yes thats right, Google uses your meta information while displaying your site in search results, but the meta tags are of no use now like before when people misused it to the full extent. Some people even put the entire article in the meta tag information just to get Google’s attention.
Very helpful tips and advices. I haven’t thought about Google News yet so thanks for reminding me about it.

If you blog don’t belong to news niche, then there is no point in submitting for Google News.

Google news is a great source for websites who keep the people updated with latest trends etc. But yes for sites like tutorials etc it may not be of much use..
If you really want to top Google search results then you must optimize your blog with better SEO. Even if you write quality content, you need to optimize your blog according to search engines to get better rankings.
@Simrandeep Singh – you are completely right. You could have the best content around, but if you don’t promote it right or have bad habits concerning SEO, then it will be useless and no one will see it.

I liked the tips you shared here. The tip I liked the most is the one about Google news. You can probably get a lot of traffic through that since Google, as you have mentioned, tends to rank recent articles higher.

Yes these are some very importanat tips where we can use those thing to get updated and get a good position in search engine .As if we organize in a proper manner we need to manage and if we could manage the stuff then we can get good amount of traffic thought search engines like google and yahoo.

Updating a blog can be a very tedious for those people who are not passionate of writing. They might not be able to think topics that they can discuss in their blogs. The only way to solve this problem is to participate to a community where you can get related topics for your blog.

My personal blog is about cellphones too and I’ve managed to use also google news as you have to updated constantly with google. This is a big helper since Google will see the importance also.
