Thesis theme version 1.7 is finally out and the new features are very impressive indeed. The Thesis theme now has new hooks, option pages and settings for us users to use at will.
Well, I just upgraded to Thesis 1.7b3 version yesterday and was browsing around to see what has changed and new for us users. I have been using Thesis for just under a year now and I can honestly say that their updates are just amazing. They have updates every now and then and they just impress me everytime with the features they make available.
Note that upgrading Thesis 1.7 is different from the usaul upgrade process. One will have to read about what needs to be done and in what order.
There are plenty of new features available in the new version and I’m sure many would agree that this is by far the best update to Thesis. Leave a comment below after reading more about the new features.
So what’s new in Thesis version v1.7:
- Insane new SEO controls and detail
- Options Manager
- Completely reorganized options pages
- Increased efficiency from every angle
- Include a slew of JavaScript libraries
- New home page controls
- Flexible new comment system
- Easy 301 redirects for affiliates
- New hooks
- New headline filter
- Beefed-up internationalization
- Improved core element defaults
- Dramatically improved code quality
As you can see from the above list, the Thesis developers have been working hard to enhance Thesis and push it to a whole new level. Yes, I said new level as they are making waves in terms of SEO, user interface, etc. With the new features and enhancements, it makes it easier for the user to make changes with just a few clicks of a button.
BONUS: Included JS Libraries
This is one of my favorite features as one does not have to go and find them and they have made it really easy for the user to include them. No need to create folders for them, just select which ones you want and save.
They even have links to sites so that the user can see exactly what they offer. The Thesis theme Included the following js libraries:
You can click on the above links to find out more about the libraries. There is just to much information about the libraries to list in this post. It will never end, lol.
Addition of new Hooks
They also added a few more hooks for us to use and I think this makes life easier for us Thesis developers. It makes developing and adding certain sections to the theme easier in the end.
- thesis_hook_post_box_top
- thesis_hook_post_box_bottom
- thesis_hook_content_box_top
- thesis_hook_content_box_bottom
I’m sure many will appreciate these new hooks and will utilize it to the max. Maybe the next version will have more, you just never know.
Advanced Comment System Options:
Another great feature is the new and impreoved comment system. Previously it was hard to rearrange the comments, trackbacks and comment form.

The user now has the ability to reshuffle the them with ease and I’m trying to figure out why this was not part of Thesis from the beginning.
Anyway, to rearrange the order is done via drag and drop. The user can change the order at will and not have to worry about CSS or any function.
Ok, I’m going to stop there as there are many additional features and not enough time or space to list all the details down for you. I suggest you maybe go and view all the features to get a better understanding.
Final Thought
What do you think of the new Thesis version and features? Would it make you change your current theme?
I think as time goes on, the Thesis them evolves and will only get better. All feedback is welcomed and appreciated like always.

I have been reading a lot about the latest thesis theme. I see that they have included many more options in the theme. Thesis is really a premium theme with lots of features. Hope to see more features soon.

@Ricky – yes, Thesis has come a long way and it will continue to grow as time goes by. The options are just great and the user has more control of their site.
This seems to be overloaded with great features ,very useful. I like the concept of adding JS library. Nice share.

@Whiztechy – the inclusion of the js libraries is a huge bonus for all.
I upgraded to 1.7 last night, immediately had some problems and got the “White Screen of Death”. I googled for a solution, easily fixed it, now I am ROCKIN’ 1.7 and Lovin’ it! If anyone out there is considering purchasing the Thesis theme, do not hesitate to purchase it, you will not regret it. If you do decide, click on 1 of George’s affiliate links to get there.
@Raymond – sorry to hear about the problem you had, I had none like usual. Thanks for suggesting they buy through my link
BTW, it would be nice if you left the link for the solution, it would help others who experience the same problem as you did.
The solution for the White Screen of Death I had was found here. http://www.hightechdad.com/2009/06/10/fixing-blank-empty-or-white-wordpress-pages-after-upgrade/
The part that worked for me was the following:
Plugins – usually, after an upgrade, a plugin is the culprit. One way to quickly check to see if one of your plugins is problematic is to do the following:
* Rename “plugins”folder TEMPORARILY to something else – I changed my plugins folder to “plugins_temp” and then tried the login page again and was able to see it, so, immediately I knew that I had an issue with one of my many plugins. Note that once you log into WordPress after renaming the plugin folder, WordPress will automatically disable ALL of your plugins as a safety precaution. The problem is, in order to do the next step, you need to remember which ones you had active. Be sure to change the name of your plugin folder back to its original name of “plugins”
I hope NO ONE ever experiences the WSOD, it’s a horrible feeling not to have access to your WP-Admin page and to have even your site blank as well.
@Raymond – thanks for listing the link and details. I will try my best to remember this for the future, you never know when it might happen.
Though I yet not feel any need of this theme but Thesis really appealing and I will but one sooner or later with a developer license.

Arafat, you may not feel the need now, but I’m sure one day you will join us!
You have a nice looking site, so I guess you are doing good with the theme you have now.
I’m yet to update my Wordpress blog to Latest thesis 1.7. Meanwhile George wondering how did you styled H2 tags?

Great review. I have just upgraded and happy with Thesis 1.7 except page option. Too slow loading

@Tinh – I agree with you on the loading time, that must be looked at
I tried thesis theme four days ago, honestly I got difficulty to set the hook since I’m not a coding person, and until now I still confused how to modify the search result? Is there no hook for search result ?
Since I’m still new in thesis so I haven’t felt the seo effect yet, I don’t know whether it can improve the traffic or not, well I’m still learning about it and see what will happen next
@turisuna – I can understand your situation, I was there sometime ago. Hang in there and keep trying.
I suggest installing WordPress on your local PC/laptop and then editing there until you are more comfortable. I also think you must visit the Thesis forum for help or use Google to search for tutorials from other users.
If you need help, just use my contact page and I will see what I can do for you.
Still waiting for the Thesis 2.0 patiently
I hope it’s gonna be somthing revolutionary

The only real problem I had upgrading was that it broke commentluv.
I’m seeing the same problem on your site. The div surrounding the commenter’s last blog post gets removed so the styling disappears.
I came here hoping you’d found a fix.
.-= Catia´s last blog ..The True Threat to Travellers – The Shower =-.
@Catia – I saw the commentluv div is not in a highlighted box as before. I will see what I can see and let you all know.
Dear Serradinho,
That is great to hear such feedback about he new Thesis Theme v1.7.
I have not yet updated my own site. I usually wait a while before jumping into it, and I am quite happy with being patient.
I look forward to embracing the new thesis one day!
By the way is the new Thesis design in any way improved? ie: alternative options, slicker design, other variants etc.

Thanks for this information. I am looking to help someone move from a free theme to a paid theme and came across your post on Thesis. We’re looking for a theme that just flat-out “works” and doesn’t need a ton of tinkering right away, but gives us the flexibility to tinker later on. It sure looks like this fits the bill.
I’ve recently bought Thesis. Have you done a tutorial on how to include a Twitter username textbox on your comments form? I really like how this looks! I installed TwitterLink but I don’t like how it adds a separate box after the comments form.
@Neal – you can either follow the instruction to add the text box to your comments.php file or use thesis_hook_comment_field and then add their input field.
