Well, the question is straight forward if you ask me. You either like to build puzzles or you don’t, it’s not hard to know. You get easy puzzles and you also get those difficult ones which are always confusing, lol.
Definition from Wikipedia:
A puzzle is a problem or enigma that tests the ingenuity of the solver. In a basic puzzle one is intended to piece together objects (puzzle pieces) in a logical way in order to come up with the desired shape, picture or solution.

Puzzles are often contrived as a form of entertainment, but they can also stem from serious mathematical or logistical problems — in such cases, their successful resolution can be a significant contribution to mathematical research.
Solutions to puzzles may require recognizing patterns and creating a particular order. People with a high inductive reasoning aptitude may be better at solving these puzzles than others.
Puzzles based on the process of inquiry and discovery to complete may be solved faster by those with good deduction skills.

Anyway, let me state why I’m asking this question.
As a young boy or girl, all kids get puzzles to build and some are easy and others are way to hard. I can’t say that I was a puzzle lover when I was young, but I think I am now. When I was separated, I started to buy puzzles of different sizes and number of pieces. I had loads of spare time and needed to keep myself and my mind busy.

I can really say now that I love building puzzles. I have made a decision to start framing the big ones and displaying them on my wall of fame, “George Puzzle Wall of Fame”, that sounds funny now ![]()
I have a few up already and it looks fantastic. Even my son, Tyron, loves to build puzzles and he also has a few in his collection. He asked me to also start framing them, but I still have to decide on that as he is only on the 100 piece puzzles now. His last one built was Marvel Hero’s and that was just over 30cm wide and just under 30cm in height, so he is getting there one step at a time.
Puzzles are not for everyone, I have noticed that some love to build and others get frustrated when it’s a little bit harder. You get different types of puzzles and some I would not even bother trying to build.
I recently bought a huge box which consists of 8 puzzles ranging from 500 pieces to 1000 pieces. The total number of all pieces combined is a whopping 5500, that’s a lot. I got this at a real bargain price and would love to build them all.
The puzzles are:
- Louvre Pyramid, Paris, France (1000 PCS)
- Basila San Marco, Venezia, Italy (1000 PCS)
- Niagara Falls, U.S.A (750 PCS) – this one is complete
- Sydney Harbour Bridge, Australia(750 PCS) – just started this one
- Neuschwanstein Castle, Germany (500 PCS)
- Santorini, Greece (500 PCS)
- Lijiang, China (500 PCS)
- Elephant (500 PCS)
I don’t have much space at home, so I have to do the puzzles one by one until I’m totally finished. My mom recently sent me a 3D puzzle to try out, but that will have to wait until I have conquered the above puzzles. I hope to finish before the end of this year, wish me luck!
Do you still build puzzles?
What was your biggest you ever built?
Do you do it as a family or is it something you do alone?

Hi George. I used to build puzzles all the time as a child. As an adult, it just doesn’t seem to come up as often, but I did enjoy putting one together while I was in the waiting room of a hospital. I don’t know why I don’t work on puzzles more often because it feels good when it starts to come together. However, there is NOTHING worse that finishing a puzzle and realizing that you are missing a piece. lol!

@Trey – I have also built a few only to find out that pieces are missing. I now have a table dedicated to my puzzles and I make sure all the pieces are there and that they don’t go missing. Thanks for your feedback.
I love puzzles, but the kind of puzzle that I love are things that concerns strategy. like Warcraft.
By the way, I’m just concerned. This plugin on the left side is blocking you articles when I read them. I get a hard time appreciating your content.

@Walter – if I set my resolution to 1024×768, everything seems fine. I take it that you are using a small screen as my 15″ screen shows it 100% right.
I am not a big puzzle guy George. My boys love them, and I will occasionally jump in and help them (if they don’t mind), but that’s about it.

Unrelated question George… If you don’t mind me asking, how does that Adsense ad on the top left of all your posts do for you?
.-= Doug Dillard´s last blog ..Win an Awesome Custom Banner Package =-.
@Doug – building puzzles also relaxes me and tests my way of thinking, it also comes with a lot of frustration and fun at the same time.
The Adsense does very well at the top of posts, but I’m still debating if that is where I want and need it. I’m still playing around if you ask me, do you have a suggestion or problem with the position? Would love to hear from you.
I don’t have a problem with it all. I know that is probably the very best place you can put it on your site, as it is the FIRST thing someone sees when they read your post. I have thought about doing the same thing, but would only want to do it if it made me more money, so I wondered how it was working for you.

@Doug – well, I have made a few changes concerning that and have removed it. Will see if I can play around with it again.
The biggest puzzle I did by myself. I don’t remember how many pieces but it was the shape of a Christmas tree and was huge. I had to use extenders on my table.

@Margaret – wow, that sounds huge. How long did it take you? Were you happy afterwards?
I loved building puzzles and small models when I were a kid. As I grew older I lost interest simply because I knew anyone could solve them with enough time and I thought it didn’t give me as much as when I was creating websites.

@Stefan – thanks for your feedback. Puzzles can be a challenge if you pick the right one. You get strategy puzzles that can become very complex if they want to.
I would like to like puzzles, but I think they would stress me out as I simply don’t have enough time to sink my teeth into it – how would I have time for blogging and reading blogs, if I spent my spare time on doing puzzles?
Hopefully when I retire in some 40-45 years or so, I’d be able to really kick back with some huge puzzles and enjoy building them, I’ll be sure to guest post on your blog about it by then

@Klaus – thanks for that, even made me laugh a bit
I do love puzzles George and specially from places around the world. I would love to have a room in my house with only puzzles hanged all over the wall.

@Asswass – that is what I’m intending to do, have a room with just puzzles and other stuff I have collected.
I built puzzles when I was younger. Generally I built puzzles with my sister, and I think girls do have more patience than a boys haha. The biggest puzzles I’ve built are 1000pcs. Rawww, it took about 1 week to complete.

@Jacob Yap – wow, I know the 1000 piece puzzles take more time and patience. Did you break it up afterwards?
Yup, the 1000 pcs had taken my few nights of sleep. Haha, nope I frame the puzzles after done. It’s a exotic scene of the ocean.

@Jacob – I have also recently started to frame my master pieces, my one wall is already covered with puzzles.
Good, you can take some pics and show us someday.

Wonderful.
Nice to see you having fun. I used to do puzzles when I was younger, with my dad here in the UK. (Half of my childhood spent in Portugal, as I was born and raised there, and the other half in the UK) We also framed some of our big ones, which are tucked in the attic store cupboard now. The puzzles were of various landscapes. I don’t think I’ll have the enthusiasm do a puzzle now. I feel we all have moments for everything, and it’s lovely when we get involved in that chosen thing when we are enthusiastic about it at that moment. I think you should be named the King of Puzzles, on this site! Hoooray.
@Ana – you made me lol when I read your comment. The ‘King of Puzzles’ on Serradinho. That’s really funny. I guess most people have grown out of it and don’t build anymore or very seldom, it’s a shame.
Whats up big George, I thought I remembered reading somewhere that you were a big fan of puzzles.
I liked them when I was a kid but do to my serious lack of patience I stay away from them now.

Maybe your son can solve more puzzles ! When I was a kid, I used to solve more puzzles in less time.. but now I’m opposite to that !
