Internet Marketing in a Culture of Instant Gratification

I think it is fairly evident that we live in a culture of instant gratification. E-mails come straight to our phones, social networks make world-wide interaction instant (not to mention text messages), and you can even order pizza online (and do your grocery shopping!).

With all of the benefits and comforts of instant gratification based technologies, there are also some caveats. This progress has created an opening for unscrupulous sellers to target consumers seeking out quick solutions.

internet marketing 300x151 Internet Marketing in a Culture of Instant GratificationThis is particularly evident in the world of internet marketing. The internet is an expansive community with an abundance of opportunity to create a full time living. But, as in many other instances, newcomers seek out the quickest solutions for the fastest results possible. However the old adage holds true: “anything worth doing is worth doing well.”

The following is somewhat of a warning against such “systems” for getting rich quick (or building traffic quickly, or getting instant results of any kind). Just today I wrote on my internet marketing blog about a service promising epic results in a minuscule time period: 3,000 backlinks in one week (you can find my post here).

This of course can seem too good to be true. Why? Because it is. You can read my explanation as to why this particular offer is a scam, but this article is about these offers in general.

Too often people try to take the easy way out. They want results today…maybe tomorrow at the latest. The offer often goes something like this…

“FIND OUT HOW I MADE $107,889.34 IN JUST 7 MINUTES OF WORK!”

This claim will then be followed with screen shots for earnings proof. And some fancy sales letter design in order to convince you this is for real… and it is for real!!!

Get Rich Quick

I can believe that this statement is true. But it has a false pretense. The author probably DID make that much money in 7 minutes of work. But how long did they spend before those 7 minutes building up a solid business foundation in order to be able to do what they claim?

How long did it take them to build an e-mail list to market to in order to only spend 7 minutes this time around?

You will excitedly purchase this item thinking of champagne wishes and caviar dreams. You will be disappointed. Some people may be so disappointed, in fact, that they quit the industry altogether.

It’s time for a reality check. You will not quit your day job and begin making a full time living on the internet the second you do so. It takes effort and patience to create a quality product that can stand the test of time.

It saddens me to see so many quick-fix systems on the market because they dilute the products that actually do offer legitimate help and information.  My challenge to all newcomers to the internet marketing game is to take your time, don’t fall for false promises and to create AND promote products that are truly beneficial.

This will not make you a millionaire over night; but it WILL make you (and the internet) better off in the long run if  you stick with it. Slow and steady wins the race.

Thanks…Eugene, you are right, spending 2-3 hr on net and making your own blog and add some Google Adsense you can get money.

True! I often see such offers on the internet. I never believe them and not looking for easy ways. Only my grandmother would believe that in 7 minutes a day she can make a lot of money. You always need to think and read between the lines.

Spending some time on net can obviously give you some money to earn but I wud say earning money is not so easy also.
Its very hard and very easy too to earn online.

You have to work hard and even smarter too.
Then only you can win internet

It is funny how some people try to engage others with their scheme of “make your self rich in 2 seconds” no one in their sanity would believe that. This job requires time, effort, patience and going through the right path.

Eugene January 5, 2011 at 5:49 pm

I agree completely. This is takes works like any other job would. The difference is who you’re working for (yourself instead of someone else).

This actually means you have to put in more effort, not less.

Instant gratification is another thing Americans have become used to. Fast food, texting, instant coffee! lol This is definately one of those things that if instant riches are what you are expecting from blogging on the internet, prepare to be disappointed! I don’t beleive in the whole get rich quick schemes, except the lottery, I suppose.

Eugene January 5, 2011 at 6:15 pm

I’m no so sure that the lottery is a get rich quick scheme. How many people win on their first try? How many people play their entire lives without winning? I’m sure most people that win have been playing for years before finally hitting it big (not that quick!).

But yes…I certainly DO prefer real coffee to the instant stuff :)

Eugene, thanks for the good advice and reminder. I have just finished my coaching session and I realize that the promises of getting hundreds or thousands of dollars per day is only achievable if you have many sites. And also, AFTER we put lots of work into the sites. Not do it, and leave it just like that. It is an ongoing process. I make it a habit to search for people’s opinions first before buying something. Money is not something that I want to spend anytime anywhere I want.

Unfortunately, just about any product online is promoted as a quick-fix. Ads that say ‘get rich-quick’ or getting page rank in as little as a week dominate online marketing.

Andrew @ Blogging Guide January 6, 2011 at 12:45 pm

Great advice here. And I totally agree with you, I don’t believe in instant riches online, it’s false and I know it because I’ve experienced it. It sure takes a lot of hardwork and perseverance and to never quit but to keep moving on.

Eugene, you’re spot-on there. The only way one can get rich quick online is by scamming others. We should rather focus on building a real business. That often involves long term hard work, planning and dedication.

SuperbadIM January 18, 2011 at 12:44 am

Great article.

The sad truth is that instant wealth converts better than telling people how hard they will need to work and how long it will take them. I hope that trend changes but we shall see…

Website Design February 1, 2011 at 1:35 pm

Now a day online marketing and internet marketing increased day bay day because net is available every where and when people free they search for a different products which they needs.

Aloys @ Yeast infection in men March 1, 2011 at 2:18 am

Now more than ever, those hyped products abound. As more people are looking to make a living on the web, they fall easy prey to the hypesters. The promise of fast-earned internet cash will quickly make an overexcited newbie yank out his credit card and buy. Welcome to the first lesson of internet marketing: someone has just gotten rich off of your credulity that there’s such thing as easy money :)
