Well, I have just upgraded to Thesis theme 1.6b and I must say that they have done a wonderful job with the new version. Although this is only a beta version, it’s got all the whistles and bells.
I suggest you backup your old custom folder just in case you need it. Please be aware that once you upgrade, you can’t downgrade back to the older version.
They have just released the new beta version to users who hold developers license’s, I have no idea why they have done that. There are cool new features which have helped me to reduce my custom.css file size and that makes me very happy
I don’t want to mention to many here as there are many. If you have a developer’s license then go ahead and test it out.
I compared my old cusomt.css file to the new one and it’s almost 30 lines less.

I forgot to say that I removed the ‘Thesis OpenHook’ plugin as the new version has a built in editor. I never used the open hook, I liked to code stuff. I hope that this helps you in deciding to either upgrade now or to even just to buy Thesis outright. Let me know if you are using the old or new version.

@compute Live – the new version is wicked, many new features which helped me reduce my custom.css file as I mentioned already. It took me 3 minutes to upgrade to new version.
I don’t have the b*lls to try out the beta version
In case something doesn’t work, I simply cannot afford the time to fix it, and my 1.5 runs just fine. As soon as it goes final, I’ll try though.
I read elsewhere that one you go 1.6, you cannot go back (database issue maybe?), so people should probably be ready to restore database too in case they change their mind about the beta.

@Klaus – I will update the post with this to make sure no one dies.
Yeah, George, I can feel the power of Thesis 1.6 now !
Waiting to see some customizations for this !

George you know I believe it was three weeks ago that I finally read enough about Thesis on your site that I decided to actually give the switch a shot.
I still have yet to get it done, or even come close to getting it done. Now your upgrading. haha
.-= Extreme John´s last blog ..Facebook Fan Page Mayhem =-.
@Extreme John – the new version is so much more better, I actually removed some of my custom styling as the new version has it built in the dashboard. Remember, if you need help then call me.
Ugh was planning to get it today, I guess I have to wait because I want to try straight to the 1.6 version (even if it’s beta). Don’t want to get a developer license since I only have 1 blog to be moved to Thesis

@Michael – you can always buy the personal license and then upgrade later as I don’t know how long the beta will be out for.
Yeah I’ll just wait until they release the 1.6 to Personal licensees
.-= Michael Aulia´s last blog ..Check Melbourne traffic congestion on Google Maps! =-.
@Michael – you can wait, be safe I guess
I’ll wait for the final release then

@steppinout – if you are not confident then rather wait.
Too bad, I only have a personal license. I’m curious why they just give the V1.6b to people who has developers license only. Anyway, if I decide to use Thesis on other blogs, I’ll upgrade it.

Lee

@Lee Ka Hoong – I also have no idea why they do that, but they are the owners and probably know what is best.
Well they can also use this as a marketing tool to force people to upgrade to the developer’s license
.-= Michael Aulia´s last blog ..A technology forum at LovingTech =-.
@Michael – that is one possibility, but I guess if you have multiple blogs then it won’t matter as you have the developers license which means you can use the theme on all your sites.
I love what you did with your sidebar and footer. It looks amazing and eye catching. BTW did you submit your blog for best wordpress design?
.-= Ricky´s last blog ..10 Reasons Why Bloggers Are Twitter Spammers Or Atleast Sucks As A Twitterer =-.
@Ricky – thanks man
I never submitted as I’m still making changes and I don’t think my blog is ready, still missing something.
I hold a developers licence and can guess that because there is the assumption that those who have such a licence tweak the theme more – they are the best to iron out the bugs. I am a self-taught hacker and had hours of headaches when trying out the 1.6b upgrade.
If you are not a competent coder (I’m certainly not) be relieved that you need to wait until the fully tested version is out. I wrote a post about waiting Do not upgrade to Thesis 1.6b until you read this first.

@Somone – most of it is not as bad as most think, making changes is not hard with Thesis at all and I’ve become more confident than ever before.
