Meeting the Queen

Hi all

This is Gary reporting from the “sunny” UK – George’s very part-time reporter for Serradinho.com icon wink Meeting the Queen

Anyways I have been doing contract work at the Commonwealth for the last 6 months and was fortunate to be invited to the Commonwealth’s 60th Birthday to have cocktails with the queen! Not your everyday event!!

The evening started with Abi and myself getting quick security checks and formal welcomes by some the Commonwealths big shots. Then we were ushered into various rooms where we were given drinks and snacks while we waited.

The Commonwealth building itself is magnificent with it’s furniture valuated at millions – marble table £1.2m, couch £400k, chandelier £800k, priceless oil paintings, etc.

The queen arrives! What followed was some serious positioning by everyone in the room to try and get well placed to actually meet the queen. We were perfectly placed and 1st met prince Philip (queens husband), had some small chat and he was off, the next up was the queen, the handshakes and then some more small chat about what we do etc. and then she was off too! All so fast!!

Next time I’ll invite her to a braai!

Hi there boet,

Well done on meeting the Queen. I will let you know once I meet our President or someone important :)

Let me know if she goes to your braai, I guess you will have to wear a suit and tie even at home. Congrats boet and thanks for blogging about it.

Wow what an amazing privilege to not only be in attendance but to meet the Queen. Were you official briefed on the etiquette. I seem to recall lots of protocol in meeting royalty. Great story, one I’m sure you ll enjoy forever.

Thanks scrabble777 :)
It was an experience that will stay with me for sure! The etiquette/protocol was not pushed onto us, everyone just seems to fall into line, people bow and shake her hand when presented. More attention was put on dress code and security. The vibe and energy in the room was unreal!
