I’m back again, George’s brother Gary reporting from the UK.
A couple of weeks ago I flew over to Bansko to check up on my ski apartment! Sounds glamorous doesn’t it? Well I wish it was all good but truth be told it has been a big head ache in terms of language, distance and local knowledge.
For those of you scratching your ahead asking “where’s Bansko”, it’s a small ski resort town in Bulgaria. The quickest way for me to get there was to fly into Sofia (the capital) and bus into Bansko.
Landing in Sofia was an experience all on it’s own as it is an ex-communist city, it’s big and grey with many high rise flats and damaged roads, overall it’s functional but not easy on the eye at all. The average salary is very low and the Mafia is huge – according to the taxi driver I had!
Anyways, a 3 hour bus journey later I was in Bansko which has much better feel to it, the town is has had a lot of development over the last 5 years and consists mostly of new builds surrounding the “old” town in the middle of it. My apartment was better than I expected, yes I hadn’t seen it before! It was off plan and I was actually very nervous about the outcome. It needs a few accessories but almost there and I have started organising my next visit in ski season, yeeeehaaah!

As much of a challenging event as it seems like it was for you to go through at least you have the experience and the memories, things that many other people might never be able to say they have.

Nice post. I have to say you were quite lucky with your experience in Bansko.. its all relative!
I will doing an article on furnishing and making attractive for rental soon on my BanskoBlog … Then there will be a rental section.
You’ll see same thesis wordpress theme as yours… but nowhere near as tidy as I’m not particularly technical. Anyhow take a look there are 110 articles on Bansko and Bulgaria.
