My OWN WordPress Theme Options Page

Well, we all know that when a theme has an options page whereby you can change the look and feel with a few clicks, it makes life easier.

I’m still using Thesis theme, but have created my own options page whereby I can set certain details for my theme. Yes, it makes my life easier and I can change the look and feel with a few clicks here and there.

Welcome Message

This is the welcome message that appears on the homepage. All I have to do is enter text (html also accepted) in a text box and it will automatically be displayed. If the text box is empty then no message will display.

FeedBurner

Here one has to enter the full url from FeedBurner as well as the ID. This can be used throughout the theme.

  • FeedBurner URL
  • FeedBurner ID

Social Networks

This is where one just needs to enable a social image and it will be displayed under each post for others to share.

Theme Options - Post social network images

  • RSS feed
  • StumbleUpon
  • Twitthis]
  • Delicious
  • Digg
  • Reddit
  • Technorati
  • Facebook
  • LinkedIn
  • Google Buzz
  • FriendFeed
  • MySpace
  • Blinklist
  • Google Wave
  • Design Float
  • Mixx
  • Newsvine
  • Netvibes
  • Bebo
  • Orkut
  • Blogger

There is CSS styling which can be set, but this has to be done the normal way “manually”. I know there are most social networks, but I have just taken a few.

Recent Posts Settings

This is used to display recent posts. There are settings which can be set just by a few clicks.

Theme Options - Recent posts

  • heading for section
  • number of posts to display
  • display post thumbnail or not

There is CSS styling which can be set, but this has to be done the normal way “manually”.

Recent Comments Settings

This is used to display recent comments. There are settings which can be set just by a few clicks.

Theme Options - Recent comments

  • heading for section
  • number of comments to display
  • display gravatar or not
  • gravatar alignment (left/right)

There is CSS styling which can be set, but this has to be done the normal way “manually”.

Featured Category Posts

Here I have given myself the option of selecting 2 categories to display posts from.

Theme Options - Featured Category Posts

  • category to be selected
  • heading of category
  • number of posts to display for category

There is CSS styling which can be set, but this has to be done the normal way “manually”.

Text Ads

I have given the option of having four sections whereby text ads can be displayed.

There is CSS styling which can be set, but this has to be done the normal way “manually”.

Banner Ads

I have given four sections here and the ability to alter details just be a few clicks. The text boxes accpet html so it’s a copy and paste for me.

Theme Options - Banner Ads

  • Banner ad sections 1 to 4
  • section heading
  • location (disable, content, sidebar, footer)
  • banner code 1 to 4 (html accepted)

There is CSS styling which can be set, but this has to be done the normal way “manually”. Each location has it’s own styling.

Tweetmeme button

This will display the Tweetmeme button on your site/blog and one can select exactly where you want to display it and if you want it left or right aligned.

  • homepage alignment
  • page alignment
  • post alignment
  • category alignment

Guest Post Message

I currently display a box whereby I notify that the post has been written by a guest author and display a few details about them.

Theme Options - Guest Post Box

  • display box
  • message
  • image url
  • image size (width and height)
  • image alignment (left/right)

There is CSS styling which can be set, but this has to be done the normal way “manually”.

Final Thought

Although this project has been keeping me busy for a while, I have had a lot of fun testing and struggling with code. Yes, there have been times whereby I got mad. I’m happy with what I have accomplished and am now trying to put the finishing touches to my options page.

I also want to hear what options you would like to see if you had your own options page. I will be adding more as I find more cool features to add.

@Award Winning Web Hosting – you can use any theme for affiliate marketing and Thesis is one of them. I suggest you investigate how you want your site to look and go for it. You can modify the theme at will and Thesis is great for SEO purpose. Let me know if you need assistance at all.
