Watch OUT Digg, there is a New Kid on the Block (Shoutmeme Review)

Well all know about Digg or other communities whereby you can share and vote for your favorite posts. Well, Shoutmeme is no different and seems to be another site to add to your current list to visit and vote on.

This Digg like site is very new and some of you might have already heard about it. If not, then carry on reading below and find out more about it.

Review - New Shoutmeme siteShoutmeme, which officially launched on 3rd of February 2010 in India by a good friend of mine, namely Surender. It caters for the Indian community and it’s a place for publishers to come together and share their views, comments and vote for their favorite posts. Surender compares it closely to Digg and refers to it as a clone.

Shoutmeme Blog

Although Shoutmeme is still new and only started this month, they already have a blog setup and there are currently a few short posts. I know that the blog will grow in time and I’m hoping it will be another blog I can add to my list to visit.

Last 3 blog posts:

  1. Welcome to the ShoutMeme Official Blog
  2. ShoutMeme is now on Twitter for latest Updates
  3. Thumbnails Integration of Submitted Story’s Url

I can say that the blog has a similar look and feel as Shoutmeme, they have blended it nicely and loads fast. I can see it is using one of the most powerful themes available on the net today. Yes, it’s the Thesis theme, which I know will increase it’s SEO status and also shows me that they mean serious business.

Shoutmeme on Twitter

You can also follow Shoutmeme on Twitter if you want, go ahead and add them to your following list and you might be overwelmed by what you see. You will get updates of great posts being submitted and you can start voting for the best ones.

Twitter block

A previous post of mine, actually a review about Twarks is about having a professional twitter background and what difference it makes. If you have not read it, go and see what I had to say.

You want your twitter page to be unique, stand out and make a good impression on the visitor.

@Palabuzz – to get a good backlink from digg now is very hard, it would be easier to start of with Shoutmeme as it will become bigger and bigger in time.

The site looks simple, clean and easy to navigate. Another plus is that the site is do-follow. Like you said, it’s hard to get a do-follow link from Digg these days so many people are looking for good alternatives.

Well, most of the advantage of the site like Digg is the network.

Of course, that’s a chicken-and-egg scenario, since you can’t have the network without members, and members don’t want to sign up without the network.

However, another way of looking at it is if you sign up as one of the early members, you may have a chance to be one of the “superusers” that have a lot of influence on the site.

By the way, even though the site was developed by an Indian, does it have a world focus?

Well I think it’s at least worth a shot, after all sites like Digg, Reddit and the like have to start somewhere.

There is a Digg like site related to only health stories/articles that as an Alexa ranking less than 25,000 now. It started just like this.

Good Luck

sure I will , but errors creeping in while trying to add the button code to blogger blogs. Shoutmeme buttons & badges page @ http://shoutmeme.com/tools looks little crappy and the code seems to have some errors.

Here is the button code I have used -

Error received when added:

==> Your template could not be parsed as it is not well-formed. Please make sure all XML elements are closed properly.
XML error message: The reference to entity “title” must end with the ‘;’ delimiter.<==

this error is due to &title in the code which can be changed to &title – even then the button code isn't working. There is some fault with &quot and &apos I think. Please debug the button code and update me so that I can add it to my blog.

Thanks in advance

Shoutmeme has a long way to go yet, where as digg can be found everywhere in each of the site on internet almost, so it cant be called as a threat to the digg.

Use this service before it gets famous, because the more you wait the lesser popularity you will have in this network.
