I do internal linking but with pingbacks I only have to do it in one place. Without pingbacks I would have to go back end edit any post I link to in a new post.

@Mihai - you have a good point, but you could do internal linking in your post which I think is far better.

I can't say I agree about removing self pings. I find it's a good way to link your posts. Sure a related posts section is good too but it's never as good as manual linking.

@Fred Hart - glad to know, I hope this plugin becomes standard of WP as some stage.

Some very good points here. Particularly with the No Self Pings plugin - a ping from one's own blog isn't really using the comments system effectively.

I installed the Plugin this morning because I think comments should really show how other users (not the admin) are interacting with the blog.

@Ricky - I think it would be faster if it was part of WP core. Anyway, whether part of WP core or plugin, one's site/blog still has to make the calls and get the value's.

Well i really doubt it is a wise decision. It will increase the size of wordpress file and it can affect the loading time as well.
Logic lock-down and pinging option is good as it is related to security.
Good points you have pointed out here

@Thesis customization Service - I understand that they want the user to decide, but they can make it optional to switch on and off.

In the last wordcamp we had a word with Matt (Founder of Wordpress) and we talked about integrating all in one seo plugin with wordpress and more over changing the default permalink to SEO friendly permalink which is must have for a new bie.. Though he replied by saying that he wants users to decide what he wants.. and what he need... When it comes to SEO wordpress is as it is 80% SEO friendly now selecting platinum SEO plugin or ALL in SEo plugin is based on user discretion...

Yea I think these should be in the core of WP. But are you sure when we update a post it ping the services again?

If I am not wrong, to ping again, we'll have to unpublished and republish. Can someone cross check this please. Because if for each update wordpress ping again then that's bad :-? I have posts that are updated each week (that is same link but updated each week)...this could become bad.
