Rotate and Track Ads using AdRotate WordPress Plugin

We all know there are many WordPress plugins that we could use to show ads on your site and they are all very different. It’s always difficult to choose one as they all offer different features. I would say the decision lies with the individuals own capabilities.

Today, I’m going to talk to you about a simple yet functional WordPress plugin called AdRotate by Arnan de Gans. It’s very easy to install and setup and will take you a few minutes and you are done.

Run down of features:

There are many features for AdRotate plugin and I have listed them below.

  1. Show random banners
  2. Track how many clicks, shown, CTR

  4. Activate or de-activate banners at will
  5. Edit/update banners
  6. Widget included for sidebar
  7. Insert banners into pages or posts with shortcodes
  8. Preview banners on edit
  9. Per banner/function to set a specific banner or keep it random
  10. Multiple groups per banner location
  11. Works with Google Ads
  12. Easy in use
  13. Integrates with WordPress dashboard, yet allows you to completely style to your own need

@Greg – glad you liked it. I was going to ask you what plugin are you using for ads, but I could not see any ads on your site.

Christie August 5, 2009 at 1:30 pm

This plugin sounds like just what I need. Occasionally I manually put ad code into a post but for the most part have neglected this. Excellent review – clear and complete. Thanks!

Great review George. I just started using WP125 yesterday, so I’m going to give that a shot for a little while. If it doesn’t work out as well as I hoped for, I’ll definitely be reading this review in full one more time, and likely switching over!

Asswass August 5, 2009 at 7:24 pm

@Asswass – glad to hear, but you don’t need many ads to use the plugin. It can even be used if you have 1 or 2 banners.

Nihar August 5, 2009 at 9:04 pm

@Nihar – It won’t increase your revenue, it will help to rotate banners and other ads you might want to show on your blog.

Doug Dillard August 5, 2009 at 10:01 pm

Great thorough review George… my favorite kind to read. If I wasn’t already using Max Banner Ads Pro I would definitely give this one a try as they seem to have very similar features. Looks awesome.

George Serradinho August 6, 2009 at 7:02 am

@Doug – so you are using Max Banner Ads. I used that plugin, but the free version and the features were great. The free version had the link back to them which I did not like showing. I never bought the Pro version.

Doug Dillard August 7, 2009 at 12:01 am

Yeah… I hate “link backs” in software… so I bought the Pro version and love it!

@Doug – glad to know. I guess Max Banner Ads has probably changed since I last used it?

Tycoon Blogger August 6, 2009 at 3:14 am

This plugin seems much better than the one I am using. I am using “adman” and it is good but it only tracks clicks. This one does a whole lot more, I think I will give it a whirl. Thanks for the detailed review.

@Tycoon – glad to hear. This plugin can track clicks and I think is a bit more flexible than adman. Let me know if you need assistance.

BloggerDaily August 6, 2009 at 6:17 am

This is cool!

I currently use a script code that I put in the wordpress file. Now it’s easier with the plugin! Thanks a lot!

shraqs August 6, 2009 at 5:04 pm

Thanks for sharing about this plugins George. I do agree that this plugin is much better than Max Banner Ads.

Ps : By the way George, I’ve just add the direct download link to “invicible” album

George Serradinho August 6, 2009 at 5:24 pm

@shraqs – thanks for the vote. I see the links are there now for the “invicible” album, thanks for that.

Extreme John August 6, 2009 at 7:53 pm

Harsh Agrawal August 10, 2009 at 5:15 pm

I have been using this plugin on my Thesis powered wordpress blog and I’m so happy with it.
The plugin is great and I don;t have to worry about removal of direct or adding any banner on my blog..
A must have for wordpress blog if you get lots of direct advertisement.

Stefan August 24, 2009 at 3:24 pm

Great review of what looks to me a great plugin. Bookmarking this for later. At the moment I’m waiting to try out BuySellAds.com but I heard they are taking 25% of every sale which truly are a lot. How do you get paid by people before adding their ad? Or do you only use this for affiliate programs?
.-= Stefan´s last blog ..How to Backup and Restore Your Wordpress Blog =-.

George Serradinho August 24, 2009 at 3:35 pm

@Stefan – try and use PayPal for payments, that is what I use and it seems to work. PayPal takes some money off, but it’s very little.

Stefan August 26, 2009 at 11:15 pm

I will probably do so. Started to use Paypal for my first time when I bought Thesis because for some reason they would not accept my credit card. After spending more time with international affiliate networks I have noticed that many of them can pay you through Paypal.
