Serradinho for Mobile Phones

BlakeConsultants - The Leading Experts in Biometric Access Control and Time & Attendance

Well, I have been asked to make Serradinho more mobile by a few of my readers and I have just enabled it. There are so many WordPress plugins to convert your site to be viewed by mobile phones and I had a tough time in deciding which one to choose.

In the end I opted fo MoFuse. It’s very easy to setup and just takes a few minutes. You of course have to install a WordPress plugin which is very simple and straight forward.

Why I chose MoFuse

  1. Make your readers happy… People want to read your blog on the go!
  2. Get new readers… MoFuse will help you to promote your mobile blog which will increase traffic.
  3. Make some money… Mobile ads (Adsense) will provide you with an additional revenue channel from your blog!
  4. Get smarter… Their analytics let you see information about your mobile visitors.
  5. Get going… More and more of your readers will want your content on their mobile devices!

I have two images below showing you the normal phone view and then the iPhone view.

Now, I personally don’t browse sites with my cell phone so I’m hoping that the loading time will be decent enough.

To view Serradinho on your mobile phone, go to http://serradinhoblog.mofuse.mobi/.

Below are some other Mobile plugins that you can have a look at:

  • MobilePress is a WordPress plugin that will render your WordPress blog on mobile handsets, with the ability to use customized themes. The plugin also allows specific themes for specific devices / mobile browsers, such as iPhone, Opera Mini, Windows CE Mobile and other generic handset browsers. The plugin also allows WordPress theme developers to create custom mobile themes for WordPress blogs using the MobilePress plugin. Therefore, theme designers can create specific iPhone themes or generic themes. Think of MobilePress as an enabler for WordPress on mobile.
  • WordPress Mobile Edition is a plugin that shows an interface designed for a mobile device when visitors come to your site on a mobile device. Mobile browsers are automatically detected, the list of mobile browsers can be customized on the settings page.
  • WPTouch automatically transforms your WordPress blog into a web-application experience when viewed from an iPhone, iPod touch or Android touch mobile device. It comes complete with all the standard WordPress blog features: search, login, categories, tags, archives, photos & more. WPtouch also offers many customization features through a beautifully designed WordPress admin panel.
  • WordPressMobile.mobi was developed to make your blog mobile friendly, bring you more mobile traffic and make you money on the mobile web! More people than ever are surfing on mobile devices, making your blog work on mobiles is easy. It gives users a better experience and more reasons to return!

Let me know what you think and what plugins you are using. I have also added an icon at the top of my sidebar with a cell phone, hoping it makes it clear that you can view the site on your cell phone.

George, This is interesting… Nice option for people who want to use their cell phones. I think this will soon become a big trend, hence there’s no harm being ready!

Thanks for the information

Ricky June 15, 2009 at 3:25 am

@George
Nice move buddy. I just checked out your website(wapsite in fact) from mobile and it look kewl. The loading time also good. I still wonder that why did you choose mofuse( i read it in the topic) over wordpress mobile edition.

George Serradinho June 15, 2009 at 1:10 pm

@Ricky – I still think that my number of mobile users is low on my site, maybe I will reconsider at a later stage. Will use MoFuse analytics to see what the numbers are like.

Sire June 15, 2009 at 9:06 am

I know that there are a lot of people who love to keep track of everything while away from their computer and they therefore use their mobiles for tweeting, facebook and stuff but until now I didn’t know there was plugin to enable it.

The thing I’m wondering is the cost involved. I always thought it cost heaps to make an internet connection via a mobile phone?

George Serradinho June 15, 2009 at 1:09 pm

@Sire – that is why I don’t browse with my phone. The costs here in SA are way to high.

Gem June 15, 2009 at 11:59 am

Thank you for sharing those plugins. I am sure I will be using those ones in the future. I’ve bookmarked it (no kidding and I am not spamming you) for future reference.

I have yet to see my own blog work with those mobile plugins. Perhaps if I get to have lesser load in freelance work then I may be able to setup those ones soon.

Raju June 15, 2009 at 12:46 pm

so its a different url altogether? Not much use right? will the mobile users get redirected automatically to this url?

George Serradinho June 15, 2009 at 1:06 pm

@Raju – it’s a different url and no, they won’t be redirected automatically.

Maria@Conversations with Moms June 16, 2009 at 9:40 pm

Learning from you again. I didn’t know it was something that had to be enabled. I always thought it was automatic.

Tycoon Blogger June 17, 2009 at 2:02 am

George,
This is a very useful post as I had no idea that you had to add a plugin for your blog to show up effectively. I will get around to this in the coming weeks…nobody has asked me to make my blog mobile yet.
