Guest Posting: Basic Post Details on Serradinho

If you would like to guest post on Serradinho, then this post is for you. In an earlier post, Basics of Guest Posting, I mentioned what needs to be done concerning the basics and that should have helped you out a lot.

This post is to help you with the basics when creating your post, what needs to be filled in and what to look out for.

Tags and Categories

When you create a post, one must always select a category in which this post will reside in. Some posts might be related to multiple categories in which you can select them.

I have already created categories, but if you require a new one then you can let me know and I will create it. Otherwise, use the ones already created.

As you publish a post, you can enter tags that will be used to help find the post. This is mainly for users searching on the site.

Try and be descriptive in your tags used as it helps not only us, but the site visitors as well.

SEO Details

This is probably the most important part of setting up a post. This information that will be entered here is what the search engines will use and what others will see. Try your best to keep it simple, but unique.

• Custom Title Tag – this is the link title that you will see in search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.
• Meta Description – this is the wording under the link to the post or page. This can make a break a visitor.
• Meta Keywords – will determine how others find your post. Other themes have WP plugins to help with SEO, but Thesis has this built in which helps out a lot.

Post and Thumbnail Images

The post image will be displayed on all archive, search and category pages and it’s always nice to see images relating to a post. For me, it just means better all round.

The thumbnail image will be the image that appears on the homepage. I currently have the images appearing above the title, but you could alter it by selecting other options here. When you create a new post, the options will be set to my default settings.

The ‘alt text’ is what will show up when someone hovers over the image, please try and enter some information here. It could be the post title or something else, the choice is yours, but I will be double checking.

Trackbacks

Trackbacks are a way to notify legacy blog systems that you’ve linked to them. If you link other WordPress blogs they’ll be notified automatically using pingbacks, no other action necessary.

Discussion

As the author, you can select whether or not your post can receive comments and trackbacks. As I would like to keep Serradinho site open to discussion, I would like these boxes to be checked. This will encourage visitors to interact with others on your post and help build a community around Serradinho.
