I just wanted to say that 2 of my sites hosted on Serradinho.com were hacked a few days ago and it took some time for my hosting company to scan the server and get rid of all the infections. Namely this site as well as my free pixel site.
I have to admit that it was purely my fault as my laptop was using AVG, the free version and there was a virus that recorded my ftp password and ofcourse that is what they used. I was away for a few days on a hunting trip and returned to find my site hacked, that was my worst nightmare.
Google had also put up the normal warning message and that took another day or two to get it off. I must say that I’m changing my passwords on a regular basis now and even bought an anti-virus software so that it does not happen again.
I even learnt of two websites to help look for infections and you too can use them, they are easy to use and can help you a lot. Go ahead and bookmark them, you never know when you will need them.
BlacklistDoctor – Get an in-depth, FULL Scan of your entire site. Identify all infected pages. Have your site regularly scanned for malware infections.

Unmask Parasites – Hackers exploit security vulnerabilities in popular web software such as blogs, forums, CMS, image galleries and wikis to insert hidden illicit content into web pages of innocent third-party web sites.

Thanks to all who are still visiting after seeing the message and I do apologize if your computer was infected.
I am the proud owner of Serradinho.com and have made this my second home. I'm into blogging, downloads, WordPress, meeting and helping others, etc. Basically the internet in general :) Serradinho Web Services is my own company whereby I offer my services to clients. This ranges from web design, website upgrades, theme customizations, support, premium WordPress plugins and many more .....

Good to see you back.
and thanks for the links. I will use those to scan those sites.
Best thing to do is not save the password in filezilla or any other FTP client that we use on our PC or Laptop.
Nihar’s last blog post..How to Find Broken Links, Missing Titles, Image alt text with Xenu’s Link Sleuth tool
@Nihar – I am doing my best to not save my passwords. I am using strongpasswordgenerator.com to generate my passwords.
The best anti-virus available as far as I know is called Nod32. I think it costs about $30 / year. I think its the only AV that can detect viruses that it doesn’t have in its database. I’ve always found it to be really good.
I think the best option to avoid stuff like this though is to move to Linux. Depends what apps you use though. A lot of major apps can work natively on Linux using Wine, while others you can run in VPS. Personally the only apps I need to run in Windows are IE 6-8. Photoshop runs near perfect and even some of the latest games can be run in Linux

@David – thanks for commenting. I will have to check Nod32, maybe it’s for me. Thanks for the info.
@George
You should not depend too much on a single antivirus. For me avast works well(i know nod32 is still better.)

Thanks for this information dude… I recently heard 2 of my friends got infected with virus and resulted in site hack.
I even wrote a post with the guidelines my hosting provider sent me. Great that we are knowing all these things by discussing on various blogs like this.
TechZoomIn’s last blog post..Simple FAQ:Plugin to Place FAQ’s Easy from WP Control Panel
@TechZoomIn – thanks for commenting. It makes a difference if we all talk/write about the problems that arise.
Let me guess.. one of the Gumblar/Martuz scripts? I had that one on my site as well… Kaspersky detected it right away. After about 3 uninstall/reinstall of all the code on the site, I ended up going file by file removing the problem code, because it was in the HTML files, and extra files in my images directory. Glad to see you got everything back and running!
