Great review George. SimplePress is a great theme with special effect and I have reviewed about it too. I was offered a license that I used on my DEMO at: http://simplepress.eblogviet.com

The big different of this skin is that it has 2 layouts and more to come in the next version. Everything is automatic and you do not need to tweak it, special banner rotation and cu3er effect for featured. Ads are fully optimized too.

I am planning to use it for eblogtip.com with some customizations. Thanks

@Tinh – wow, you got a free license. That’s cool, would be nice if I got one also, but I doubt that would happen. Let me know when you start using it on eblogtip.com

Hi George,

The theme/skin looks great, just wanted to point out to you the link appears to be broken for me (I get a 404)

I use Thesis on one of my sites and Frugal on another. They’re both basically frameworks and have their own advantages. Since we’re talking about skins, one of the things I like about Frugal right now is they’ve recently launched a skin store and you don’t need to use FTP to upload the skin (like you do with Thesis skins, at least for now). I think Chris said Thesis has that coming in the next version though.

I really like how these frameworks are moving beyond having the user or their developer customize things manually, and making it easy to upload options. I’m a software developer, but I don’t really have an eye for design and like the flexibility the themes offer … but want someone else to use that flexibility to give me a design I like ;)

@Sid Savara – thanks for the broken link mention, it was working fine when I was still setting up the post. I have fixed it now.

The framework helps with many aspects of a site and I’m also waiting to see what the new version of Thesis has. Hope it makes life easier as my own Thesis skin is coming on slowly.

I am planning to change my blog’s theme. In 50-50 situation shall I go for this theme or any free theme as of now since I m having zero revenue from my blog till now. Don’t know what to do

@George: A question from you if u cud tell, what u say.. Are paid themes as thesis etc. prove much better than free ones available in the market?
If theres only 1-2 up or down then I think no one will go for paid ones. What such these paid themes as thesis do contain ?

@Tinh – it all depends on the theme developer. I agree that if one is serious about their pressence on the net, then premium themes are the way to go.

One could start of with a free theme and make some money from affiliate banners/links and then use that money to buy a premium theme. That way you don’t cough up money before you even start ;)

@TechOfWeb – I personally find that paid themes are much better as the support and help that is received are better. I still think that free themes are better to start off with as you get to take baby steps first, but if you are serious then premium themes are the way to go.

I usually use joomla since (I think) joomla can give you more flexible site: from blog to big website.
Looking at this theme, I should try WP.

I too am using Joomla, but WordPress rocks too. The Thesis themeis very popular right now. Maybe too popular? That could have some drawbacks too.

The thesis skin looks plain and looks crowded. It’s more to magazine style, do you think so? But that would help for people who doesn’t know anything about thesis customization, I just know a very little about thesis customization, you know it bro. ;)

Anyway, nice sharing!

Cheers,
Lee

SimplePress looks pretty nice, thanks for the overview on features and the inside look at the admin panel in WordPress. If there’s one thing I’d complain about with Thesis (I don’t have much to complain about), it’s that there doesn’t seem to be a very robust “skin” and design community. Development help is easy to find, but I’ve only come across a handful of design skins.

@Dima – I had a look into the problem and found it to be the developers site that has been infected. My blog and e-junkie.com are clean. The developer has been notified and replied that he knows of the problem and is attending to it.
