Test WordPress 2.8 Beta 1

Hi,

I just saw on my WordPress dashboard that WordPress 2.8 Beta 1 is out. I have had a chance to look at the version details and I’m impressed to see what has been improved and all. The developers have been working long and hard on these changes.

Now, if you want to see what’s new, then I suggest you go visit this link and see all the changes. The changes are for user interface, development & themes & plugins, advanced features, the new widgets API and menu reordering via plugin. There are many changes that will enhance WordPress and this new version is definitely going in the right direction. They have covered many issues and problems experienced by us users and they are getting them solved one by one.

My fav change is the new widget API feature, I think this will help a lot of users and developers. Go have a look and let me know what you think. Let me know of your fav change or changes.

I will probably only update to the new version once it is out of beta testing, this is to ensure that everything has been tested and found to be correct.

Yes Ricky, I don’t have mobile edition installed. I don’t think anyone views my site via a mobile phone. I will have a look and read more about it.

Wow Ricky, I never knew that. I will see what I can do.

Could i ask how long it takes now to load on your mobile and if it looks the same as if you are browsing from a PC or laptop?

Ricky May 18, 2009 at 2:24 am

@George
It looks same on the mobile.You have a little bit more graphics so it takes more time to load.But it is working well and loading time is also good.I am sufing through operamini 4.2 and your homepage takes more time,it almost takes 1.5 times more than other pages which is quite understandable(151kB homepage size,in mobile edition it is almost 5kB :-o ).

Thanks Ricky for the details, much appreciated.

Wordpress 2.8 comes with some great change. Though before installing it I will wait for it to come out of beta phase.

Hi Harsh – I agree with you totally. The beta releases are cool and all, but I am always scared of things going horribly wrong.

Maria@Conversations with Moms May 18, 2009 at 5:58 pm

I’ll be honest with you George. I’d love to tell you the features I’m looking forward to but there is a lot. Most of the language, I don’t really understand. LOL. But I’m like you and will definitely wait until it’s past Beta. Plus, when you upgrade, there’s always the risk that a current Plug-in will no longer work.

@Maria – just read about Jeffrey and the games you play. He is lucky to have a mom like you. Have a jol as when he grows up, it will be harder.

Thanks for stopping by :)
