So, many have seen on my homepage that I have a few links under my teaser posts. This short tutorial is for thesis theme, but this can be adjusted for other WordPress themes.
Many have emailed me asking how I created the links and if I would share it, I thought why not. I have nothing to hide and have already helped 3 other bloggers do the same on their thesis theme. I have tried my best to explain in detail, please ask questions if you need help or assistance.
Thesis Tutorial - Teaser Posts Menu Links
This tutorial is for thesis teaser posts, although you can adapt this for feature posts as well. You will just have to use a different hook, you can use the same function to display the menu links.
Please backup your custom files incase you have to revert back to original files.
1. Excerpt length of Teaser Posts
The excerpt length of your teaser posts can be set differently. The function sets the excerpt length to “75″, you might have to increase this to a higher number. It all depends on the size of your images you have uploaded for ‘Thumbnail Image’. The two filters are “excerpt_length” and “the_excerpt”. You can get the download files below from the link.
Changing the excerpt length is very simple and easy enough. Once you have added the function to your functions file, you should be able to see the difference on your homepage.
2. Teaser Menu Links
Add a function and some css styling and yo can add extra menu links below your teaser posts and it’s so easy to do. You can of course change the links to something else or add other links, but at least you will have the basic layout to start off with.
The current menu links are:
- Number of comments
- Add your Comment
- Continue Reading
Example of Menu Links
This function will display the menu links on your thesis homepage, category and search pages and uses the “thesis_hook_after_teaser” hook. You can have it displayed on other pages just by editing the if statement in the function. You can style the menu links as you wish and make them blend in with your blog or make it stand out, the choice is yours.
I have created a text file with all the code for the the functions and css styling. I have done this as to ensure that the code is not messed up in any way.

P.S. I added the download file as I see that the syntax plugin changes the code when I edit the post. This creates a problem whereby I have to edit the functions again and this is very time consuming.

Yes, it pasted all think as guided in the txt file but it does not work at all, I know it is for teasers. I pasted, clear cache but it is still default

Update: Just checked and your posts are showing them in the feature_box which means they are not teasers. Have a look at your source code

@Lee Ka Hoong – I have done this on other sites and it works. I can see it working on other blogs as well. Have a look and make sure you have copied the PHP and CSS and that your home page is set to show teasers.
You told me about the problem and I’ve done it last week. I’ve just deleted the download file last week, and I realized that the download link is the tutorial for twitterlink plugin, can you have a look on the download link?

Taksali – you gave me access and I checked and you were not even using my full code. There was no css copied from my download link. You need to first copy the details from the download file and then you can get creative with your own styling, etc.

@Jitendra – First you have to check that you are doing this for teasers ONLY. Then go to Thesis Design >> Teaser Display Option and make sure link to full article is not checked.

Great work George. The tutorials have been very helpful. I have a question. How do you fix the location of the menu boxes. I want the menu boxes to be say 10px from the lower teaser box border? At the moment, the teaser box location seems to be relative to the text in the teaser box.
