Developing a blog that serves a valuable function to its readers and makers can be time consuming. Make all of your time and effort blogging worth it. Get the traffic and recognition you deserve with these 5 amazing free tips that work.

First, a good foundation of information needs to be built in order to attract traffic in the first place and then sustain it. Second, the blog should complement the business of the company it represents in a unique way.

It should not just be another round of sales pitches, but related ideas and tips readers can learn from. If you have developed a substantial foundation of information for the beginning of your blog, the next step is to promote it to readers and hopefully stir conversation and receive feedback.

How does one go about doing that? Read these 5 tips to take advantage of free online resouces and you will be sure to generate positive strides toward building your blog’s traffic.

1. Have all company employees include the blog link in their signature

This is an easy way for your blog and other forms of social media to gain exposure. It is likely that thousands of emails are being sent out of the company on a regular basis. Take advantage of this repeated form of communication by including a “follow our blog” link underneath personal info to remind people you communicate with to support the blog.

2. Embrace social media

The viral nature of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare is the best thing to happen to businesses today. Businesses are now able to engage in a worldwide conversation with existing and potential customers as well as other professionals.

Summarize the posts in a 140 character tweet that entice a follower to click and even retweet. Offer a special to your facebook fans that post on your wall about what they liked on your blog. Social media offers endless possibilities to get word out, and get it out quickly.

3. Submit posts to social bookmarking sites.

Sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, and Delicious can be tremendous resources for promoting posts. If you think about the concept of these sites, their purpose it to pass around great content based on individuals’ interests.

If your content is regularly seen on these sites, you can gain a band of loyal readers. Do yourself a favor and do not underestimate the power of social bookmarking sites.

4. Comment on do-follow blogs

However, it is important to be classy about it. Do not spam sites, because people will recognize this and not think of you as credible, but just looking to gain traffic.

If you agree with a post, explain why and how you are credible on the subject, and include a link. If you don’t agree, explain why and offer a counterargument on your blog with a link to follow. Give people a reason to want to learn more about what you have to say.

5. Register in blog directories

There are numerous directories for blogs on the internet, such as Google Blogs, Technorati, and Alltop. Directories act as search engines specialized in categorizing blogs.

Users can search for specific content of interest and the results will be limited to blogs and only those offering such content. Registering your blog in directories is a good resource to reach voluntary blog readers.

Final Thought

We all can do many things to bring more traffic to our blogs, but one has to get out there and make an effort. Good things will come to those who work hard.

It is really better to have other sources of traffic then just relying on search engine.

George Serradinho August 10, 2010 at 7:56 am

@Paul – yes, the more sources the better it is. BUT it does make a difference is the source is good or bad.

In my opinion, guest posting is a great way to get the best exposure for our blog. Besides, guest posting can drive a lot of traffic. We can get a quality backlink too. Anywat, thanks for sharing these 5 tips.

@Kok Siong Leow – guest posting is a great way, but only if used properly. You get those few users who just waste their and the owners time.

I think the most active blogger already do all those things to promote their blog. Social media promotion is the best strategy for branding our blog as long as branding our name.

I thinks #3 and #4 is very important to promote your blog

Tinh August 15, 2010 at 4:19 am

The #4 should be extended to both nofollow and dofollow as promoting blogs does not mean only dofollow. Am I correct?

Mike August 29, 2010 at 9:23 pm

that’s right Tinh. While dofollow pass the link juice for you, nofollow don’t but it still counts for your backlinks

mmmm there are lots of blogging techniques which are proven. It’s up to the user on how to use it to be more effective. Different blogger has their own unique techniques, in my case I use link wheel techniques and article submission.

I agree with DT that still it’s up to the user on how to use it to be more effective and useful.

Give people what they want and do it consistently. You do that and people will visit you – and – continue to visit you.
