WordPress v3.0 is here and is packed with many new features for you to enjoy and take advantage of. Have a look at the tour video below to see what the new version has.
I have already upgraded to the new version and had absolutely no problems at all. I must say that it’s become easier with each new release of WordPress.
Please make a backup of your database and files before upgrading.
I know that it can be hectic sometimes when there is a new release, but this one is just awesome for all. The theme developers have new API’s that allow them anyone to easily implement:
- custom backgrounds
- headers
- shortlinks
- menus (no more file editing)
- post types
- and taxonomies
You will have to read more about WordPress 3.0 and see what you have access to now. The developers have really made things easier for all users ranging from newbies to the most advanced users. There are so many new features to list, that it would be easier just to view all WordPress 3.0 features and updates and see for yourself.
If you are using Thesis theme, then you will need a fix to get the custom file editor working. Before this fix the screen will be blank. Thesis theme custom editor fix

There is problem with custom file editor in Thesis 1.7 after upgrading to WP3.0 do you know that
@venkat – I am also experiencing a problem now. The page seems to go blank.
Uh oh, that’s what I fear about WP upgrades. As I’m not that savvy and techie, I want to avoid, as much as possible, any unforeseen complications. I hope the WP team has received feedback about these and create an update soon. I like WP but I’m wary about immediately going for an update.
@James – if you are wary, then wait a few days and see what others are saying about the update. This ensures you don’t get a surprise.

Wordpress 3.0 is really a great and rich improvement over all the WP versions till now.

I just recently upgraded to 3.0. I really like the basic theme template that comes with it. It is kind of like the old Kubrick but it is a little neater. I like the fact that they have some decent stock header images for it also. Unlike most bloggers, I tend to ignore the overall look of a blog as much as I possibly can. I know that some less than impressive looking blogs actually have decent information buried in them.
@Kathy – yes, one can ignore the look and feel of a website, but it does matter as first impressions last. I’m not saying that one has to go all out, but just a small effort will go a long way.
