They have just released version 2.8.3 of WordPress. Please first make a backup of your database so that you can restore if something goes wrong. I am using WP-DBManager plugin to make my database backups
Some places were missed when fixing the privilege escalation issues for 2.8.1. Luckily, the entire WordPress community has our WordPress backs. Several folks in the community dug deeper and discovered areas that were overlooked. With their help, the remaining issues are fixed in 2.8.3.
Since this is a security release, upgrading is highly recommended. Download 2.8.3, or upgrade automatically from your admin.
This took me less than 10 seconds to upgrade automatically, so go ahead and do it now.
Upgrade now to WordPress 2.8.3

I’m still on 2.7, so guess this security threat would not affect my blog much… but as always, it’s safer to be updated with the latest..

@Christie – the automatic upgrade worked 100%, not a single issue.
I did it on my lunch break – just took a few seconds, as you said. Backed up db before, then SimpleScripts took care of the rest. Thanks for giving me the courage!

I want to upgrade but one of my blogger friend faced a problem in his blog after upgrading, so i was not sure that I should update or not. Now after reading post and comments , I guess I should go ahead.

Being new to Wordpress, It always gives me a feeling that I will land up in a mess if I do anything wrong. Anyways, I know that I should try out new things.
I just fear, that my database does not get deleted by mistake or some mishap does not happen! I will shift to Wordpress 2.8.3 soon!
@Tech-Freak Stuff – just use the WP-DBManager plugin or any other plugin to make a backup of your database and then upgrade. I do it all the time.

Yes exactly, I have to do it..So, why not do it now!! I will surely use the plugin use mentioned for doing so.

I am still using the old wp. I had a horrific month after upgradation. I messed up with my blog. Anyway everything is fine now. I am still waiting for others to review it.

I am trying to upgrade it automatically just now but hit error message “Installation Failed”. I think this is the hosting package limitation which not allow me to upgrade automatically? I have no problem upgrading automatically to latest version for my other blog which using better hosting package and lesser plugin as well.
